
Medical psychology education of students was started in Kyiv University in 1973, with establishment of the Social and Educational Psychology Department. In September 1992 the Psychodiagnostics and Medical Psychology Department was formed in order to enhance and improve medical and psychological education of students. The unit was renamed as the Psychodiagnostics and Clinical Psychology Department in 2008.
Department Head: Mr. Leonid F. Burlachuk, Doctor of Psychology, professor, academician of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine. He is a professional in medical psychology, psychology of personality, and psychodiagnostics.

Major areas of the department’s scientific activity:
- Psychodiagnostics.
- Medical psychology.
- Psychotherapy. Psychological consulting.
- Motivation psychology.
- Biological basis of behaviour. Psychogenetics. Neuropsychology.
- Pathopsychology, psychiatry, psychopharmacology.
Department’s lecturers provide professional education and specialization of students in psychology, conduct psychological courses and specialized courses for students specializing in other areas. The department serves as a basis for getting master’s degree in psychology with the specialization “Clinical Psychology.”
Students specializing in the department’s areas have field study and research practices in Kyiv Municipal Clinical Psychoneurology Hospital № 1, Neurosurgery Institute, Kyiv Municipal Medical College, and Kyiv Gestalt University.
The department educates postgraduate, doctoral and postdoctoral students having specialization 19.00.04 "medical psychology".
